As a DCCCD student, you have many options to save money on textbooks, and you’re not obligated to buy your books from DCCCD-affiliated bookstores. You can buy them online from any source, purchase them at a campus bookstore — both new and used — or you even can rent them.
Since 1965, the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) has grown from a single-building campus to a seven-college system that has educated and trained more than three million students. You can find many of these individuals in the workforce today, giving back not only to the local community but at a global level as well.
We’re so glad you’re back for summer classes! If you missed the registration deadline (you can’t register for a class after it has met once), we still have some great options for you:
- Flex Term classes — We offer Flex Term classes starting every month. Flex Term classes are often short-term college classes, but the length varies depending on the class.
- Summer II classes — Summer II classes start Monday, July 13. Check the DCCCD summer schedule to see what’s available.
- Online classes — If you can’t make it to campus, online classes at community college are a great way to pick up some summer credits. Some are Flex Terms and some are traditional semester-length classes.
As a non-Bruce Parramore, Eastfield welding graduatetraditional student, Bruce Parramore worked as a truck driver while taking welding courses at Eastfield College. Within four months, Bruce went from truck driver to full-time welder within the same company.
The availability of welding jobs in Texas is on the rise, with starting salaries between $40,000 and $70,000. An associate degree in Welding from DCCCD will only cost you about $3,600, making it a great value for the cost.
Interested in a career in early childhood development, but not sure where to start? The Dallas County Community College District can help.
Throughout April and May, Richard Andrew Sharum has embarked on what has been described as “perhaps the most ambitious photography project ever to take place in Dallas.” A larger scale of a project from last year, Observe Dallas 2015 shows photos of everyday people, observed through Sharum’s eyes and lens, in the hopes that those who see the photos will stop, think and observe the beauty in their daily lives.
The Texas Workforce Commission, along with the Dallas County Community College District, has announced a new initiative to help veterans get the training they need to find manufacturing jobs in Dallas. As part of the program, veterans are also invited to participate in the Military 2 Manufacturing Career and Resource Fair, hosted in partnership with the Urban League of Greater Dallas.
Do you know someone who is a small business owner? Small business owners who want to learn more about managing and expanding their businesses — and about hiring great employees — are invited to apply for the Goldman-Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Do you enjoy working with kids? Have you ever considered specializing in early childhood development?
You’re in luck — Brookhaven and Eastfield both offer an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Child Development, with a specialty in Early Childhood Education. Even better, these programs should easily transfer to a four-year university*, saving you money while on the path to earning your bachelor’s degree.
