At Dallas College, we’re offering numerous ways to celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month this June with fellow members of the Dallas College community. (Check out the full calendar.) But if you’re keeping socially distanced, studying with us while living somewhere else or just want to find even more ways to celebrate, here are some ways to partake in Pride Month activities online, from the comfort of your own home.
Learn About LGBTQ History
Visit the GLBT Historical Society Museum & Archives exhibitions:
- 50 Years of Pride
- Performance, Protest and Politics: The Art of Gilbert Baker
- Legendary: African American LGBTQ Past Meets Present
Visit Stonewall Inn online at Colorful Stonewall Forever.
View the Illegal to be You: Gay History Beyond Stonewall exhibit, previously at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
Educate Yourself to Become an Ally
Attend one of our free, online LGBTQ Ally Trainings:
- LGBTQ+ 101 Ally Training, Tuesday, June 8, 10-11:30 a.m.
- LGBTQ+ 102 Ally Training, Tuesday, June 22, 10-11:30 a.m.
You can also get in some informative reading. The Trevor Project, an advocacy program for LGBTQ youth, has published a free, downloadable Guide to Being an Ally to Transgender and Non-Binary Youth.
Watch Movies Celebrating the LGBTQ Experience
Some of our favorites include Love, Simon, Out (a Disney short film), Saving Face, Imagine You and I and But I’m a Cheerleader.
Wear Your Pride on Your Sleeve
Show your pride by wearing those cool Pride rainbow socks. Don’t have anything in your drawer yet? Many companies offer a Pride collection of clothing in June.
Donate to LGBTQ Non-Profits
Here’s a helpful guide to Dallas-area charities which provide assistance to the LGBTQ community, and here is a selection of non-profit organizations across Texas which help LGBTQ people.
Support LGBTQ Businesses
Visit the North Texas LGBT Chamber of Commerce to start browsing.
