Every year since 1963, the U.S. has observed a National Small Business Week in honor of community contributions from local entrepreneurs and small business owners. The purpose of Small Business Week is to recognize these business owners and their employees, who make up more than half of Americans and create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.
Calling All Small Business Owners
This next part is where you come in: as part of our observance of National Small Business Week, DCCCD will be hosting three days of events in collaboration with the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce, the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Small business owners from across Dallas can attend these free workshops in order to learn and develop important skills that are part of the day-to-day operation of running a small business.
Attend a Small Business Workshop in Dallas May 2-4
For the first day of these small business workshops, you’ll learn all about how to do business with us – DCCCD! On Monday, May 2 workshops will include information on things like our bidder registration system, our bidding and contract pricing agreement process and more.
On May 3, the workshops will include more general information about how to grow your small business, similar to the courses offered as part of DCCCD’s 10,000 Small Businesses program. Workshops will include:
- Tips and tools for small business — developing your business
- Workforce development training
- Access to capital — funding for small businesses (traditional and nontraditional)
The May 4 workshops will primarily include information on business certifications and the certification process, such as those from the North Central Texas Regional Certification Agency, the DFW Minority Supplier Development Council and the Women’s Business Council-Southwest.
