Dallas College continues to live out its mission to transform lives and communities through higher education. Let’s reflect on 2024 as Dallas College further established itself as a leader in higher education.
As David Letterman used to do on his Late Show, here’s Dallas College’s Top Ten List from 2024 —
- Dr. AMG. Christopher Manning has become a social media influencer for his work on the Mercedes-Benz performance brand, AMG. Where did he get his start in the automotive technology industry? Dallas College.
- Mariachi Returns. The Mountain View Campus welcomed back the Mariachi Leones this spring after a lengthy pause following the COVID-19 pandemic. The revitalized group drew interest among students with 22 players joining in early January.
- Fulfilling Dreams. Our School of Education saw the first cohort of the bachelor’s degree program graduate in 2023. Those graduates, such as Raven Furlough, are now living out their dreams and helping build up the next generation.
- Impact Partnerships. Dallas College provides hands-on, real-world training to ensure our students are ready to enter the workforce upon graduation. One example is the School of Creative Arts, Entertainment and Design partnering with the Longhorn Ballroom to provide internship opportunities for students to work in a historic music venue.
- We Are Dallas College. Students are the backbone of any school, and Dallas College is proud to be home to so many groundbreaking students with strong first generation and international populations. Among the many inspiring stories in our “We Are Dallas College” series included students such as Tiffiya Samuel and Ngai Ning.
- Innovative Learning. Dallas College is consistently putting its students first by investing in things such as simulators that use virtual reality to help students become forklift operators. It provides a real-life experience such as tipping containers over but in a zero-risk environment.
- Beyond the Classroom. Our faculty members are known for their great work in the classroom, but many have impressive outside interests. Victor Soto, a respected music professor who has been with the college since 2006, has become known for his ability to restore pianos such as a C. Bechstein 1865.
- Pathway to Success. Dallas College is in the barrier-busting business, and it is helping to remove the transfer barrier by forming the Dallas Transfer Collaborative. The simplified approach is an agreement between Dallas College and four-year schools including Texas A&M University-Commerce, Texas Woman’s University and the University of North Texas at Dallas.
- Pioneering Alumni. It never gets old to see the great things our alumni are doing in the world. Gerald Davis shared his remarkable story of graduating Dallas College at age 17 and later becoming the first Black dentist to work full-time at the Nashville VA Medical Center.
- Telling Number. Finally, the number that says it all: 16,438. That’s how many students earned credentials in the 2023-24 academic year.
