Get (or Give) Free Help Filing Taxes

Last updated on September 24, 2024

Have you filed your 2024 tax return yet? The April 15 deadline is quickly approaching! Before you hire someone to help you, however, consider your options. You may qualify for free help filing your taxes.

Or, maybe you want to learn how to prepare taxes, and then help others? Let’s talk about your options:

In-Person Tax Help

In 2024, did you earn less than $64,000?

If so, you likely qualify for free tax prep services available through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). Open days, evening and weekends, VITA offers free in-person tax prep services.

This means more money in your pocket!

An IRS-certified volunteer will help you prepare your tax return for filing. Help is available in English and Spanish at more than 50 VITA locations in the DFW metroplex. Many locations are DART accessible.

VITA is available at some Dallas College locations too:

  • Bill J. Priest Center
  • Garland Center
  • Mountain View Campus
  • Pleasant Grove Center
  • Workforce Center at RedBird

* VITA support at Dallas College is sponsored by Foundation Communities and Sharing Life Community Outreach.

Training and Volunteer Opportunities

Want to help your community and increase your earning potential? Become an IRS-certified tax preparer or client liaison and volunteer at a VITA site.

Free training is available through Foundation Communities. No accounting experience is needed!

Sign up today through Foundation Communities.

Are you a Dallas College student or employee interested in volunteering, but have questions? Email TaxHelp@DallasCollege.edu with the subject line “VITA Volunteer.” A team member will respond to you in 1-2 business days.

Volunteers must commit to serving at least 25 hours.

Make Your Money Go Even Further
