Help Improve Broadband Access in Our Community

Last updated on February 17, 2023

The importance of having reliable broadband access will continue to grow by the day. The federal government is preparing to send more than $40 billion to states to expand internet connections, and it’s important the state of Texas receives its fair share.

So, Dallas College is helping spread the word of this study being conducted by the Federal Communications Commission. If you struggle to find a reliable internet connection, or if you know someone who does, it’s important to submit a “location challenge” to let the FCC know as the new FCC map will determine how much of the $40-plus billion is allocated among the states.

“Reliable broadband access is necessary infrastructure that enables our students and the community to access online educational opportunities and do things like search, apply and interview for jobs,” said Benjamin Magill, Dallas College’s associate vice chancellor of economic opportunity. “It also allows students to address basic needs like telehealth without the  added burden of transportation.

“A reliable broadband network also allows companies to expand and create jobs. It makes any given neighborhood more attractive to job creators.”
