We’re looking for students to represent Dallas College at this year’s Community College National Legislative Summit. Students who are selected will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the Feb. 6-9, 2022, event.
During the four-day event, students will meet U.S. representatives in Congress and connect with other community college leaders who are interested in student government and higher education advocacy. The deadline to complete the application for this opportunity is Wednesday, Dec. 15.
After filling out the application, you will be asked to submit a one-to-three-minute video of yourself sharing an interesting aspect about you that will give insight and understanding into who you are. Based on applications and videos, several students will be selected to move to the final round, which will be an interview with Chancellor-elect Justin Lonon.
Student leaders will hear from members of Congress and other speakers about the current political landscape and its impact on community colleges. According to the National Legislative Summit website, this premier event is “designed to inform and educate community college leaders on federal policy issues that impact postsecondary institutions and students.”
The Community College National Legislative Summit is presented by the Association of Community College Trustees in collaboration with the American Association of Community Colleges, and focuses on the following federal legislative priorities:
- Fund community colleges and their students to meet the pandemic’s challenges
- Support Dreamers
- Focus student tax policy on those who can benefit most
- Invest in higher education and workforce development in the appropriations process
- Reauthorize the Higher Education Act for today’s colleges and students
