Dallas College has participated in the RecycleMania competition since 2008 and since then has recycled more than 2.3 million pounds of bottles, cans, cardboard and paper.
In 2021, students and employees can participate in recycling and zero waste practices at home. The name of the competition, RecycleMania, has also been changed to Campus Race to Zero Waste by the National Wildlife Federation who sponsors this annual collegiate competition.
To participate this year at home, you need an Instagram account that is public.
Post pictures of your recycling or zero waste ideas and use the hashtag #DallasCollegeRecycles or #DallasCollegeZeroWaste
(If you do not use one of the hashtags and your account is not public, your entry will be disqualified.)
Beginning Feb. 8, 2021, and ending March 26, 2021, one winner will be announced each week for the most creative, most recycled materials or most likes on their post.
Judges of Facebook or Instagram posts include members of the sustainability team and students from three campus green teams. Weekly winners will be featured on these three Dallas College sites:

Winners will be submitted to the national competition to complete against other colleges and universities.
During the RecycleMania / Campus Race to Zero Waste Competition in 2020:
- 4.5 million college students and staff were reached.
- 300 U.S. and Canadian campuses participated.
- 48.6 million pounds of waste was recycled, donated, and composted.
- 380 million plastic containers were kept out of the landfill.
- Campuses prevented the release of 70,875 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2E) into the atmosphere, equivalent to preventing annual emissions from 15,047 cars!
Campus Race to Zero Waste begins this week and runs for eight weeks, ending on March 26, 2021. All students and employees are welcome to participate while measuring their trash from their various homes.
