Year Up is a one-year program that teaches you skills companies need. The program provides young adults, ages 18-26, with training, college credit and internship opportunities to launch professional careers with companies like Bank of America and Amazon. Year Up helps you to move from minimum wage to a career in one year. Sounds pretty neat, right? Keep reading!
How Does Year Up Work?
During the first six months, you’ll attend Dallas College to learn professional and technical skills, earning 30-39 college credits. Next, you’ll put those skills to work in a six-month internship with one of Year Up’s corporate partners, where you’ll gain real-world experience. And, along the way, you’ll have plenty of support from Dallas College, the Year Up Student Services team and a tight-knit community of peers.
What Types of Training Can I Choose?
Year Up career training is designed specifically to meet the needs of our local partners. Students accepted into the program for Spring 2021 can choose from these options:
Software Development and Support — You’ll learn basic skills in programming, application/web development, databases and software development fundamentals. When you finish the program, you will be able to solve problems with code, use business requirements to develop software solutions and navigate technical components of a database.
Information Technology — You’ll get hands-on training in hardware and software support. The program will teach you how to support hardware, operating systems and network devices and how to approach customer service.
Business Operations — In this program, you’ll learn core business skills to aid daily operations of an organization, increase efficiency and improve business processes. You’ll train toward proficiency in topics such as customer service, project management, personal finance, data analysis, public speaking, marketing, accounting and business ethics/law.
