The 2021-2022 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available, and you probably know the drill by now. You want to fill it out as soon as possible because states and colleges use the FAFSA to determine aid awards and scholarships. So, get your money before somebody else gets it.
You must file a new/renewal FAFSA each year to be considered for federal financial aid. So, if you don’t know the drill or you need a bit of a refresher, we’re here for you. Let’s take a short stroll, friends.
First of all, you need to create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. It’s a username and a password that allow you to access FSA’s online system, and it will serve as your legal signature.
Complete the Form
Before you get started, you’ll need:
- Your 2019 tax return and any W-2 forms (Here’s a hint: Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. It’s the easiest way to submit required 2019 income information.)
- Current bank statements
- Social Security numbers, for both you and your parent or legal guardian
Once you’ve completed the steps to fill out your FAFSA, there’s something else to keep in mind that’s easy to forget if you’ve previously completed the FAFSA. We are Dallas College now, which means just one federal school code: 004453.
At Dallas College, you also need to make sure you complete your financial aid file, review your award letter and register for classes.
