Do you think college should be available to everyone — regardless of income, sexual orientation, race or nationality? Or that a better education means a better life for college students and their families? And are you willing to speak up for your beliefs?
Then, we’ve got a perfect opportunity for you. Become a Student Ambassador with the Dallas College Street Team!
“I used to think that I could only start making an impact in my community once I graduated,” said Ferdinando Castro Gonzalez. “A student was supposed to study and get ready for tomorrow. But Street Team (and Marielle, the team advisor) proved me wrong. It showed me that I am ready today.”
A returning student ambassador on the Dallas College Street Team, Ferdinando has spent the past year using his communication and leadership skills to advocate for education in the community. As part of Street Team, he has visited U.S. consulates and classrooms, marched in parades and assisted children at the Perot Museum, all to help Dallas families access education.
“Everyone in this group, including our advisor, loves to serve others and is willing to help you as much as they can,” Ferdinando said. “Most of my best friends came from Street Team, and I am very happy I joined; otherwise, I would not have gotten to know these special human beings. If you are considering becoming a street teamer, my suggestion is to apply as fast as you can!”
Influencing Dallas
At Dallas College, our Street Team is a group of students who act as ambassadors in the community. Their role is to represent the student body in the community and on campus (and now online!). They are our college’s biggest fans and advocates. Each member is an outstanding student leader from one of our seven campuses, and they are all passionate and outspoken.
Going Virtual
Now in its fifth year, Street Team is making some big changes. For the first time, team members will be virtual ambassadors.
Typically, Street Team is out and about, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, our student ambassadors for the 2020-2021 academic year will be serving online. So, for any speaking engagements, classroom visits, college fairs, focus groups or festivals the Street Team participates in, the team will be attending on camera rather than in person.
Students selected to serve on the Street Team represent Dallas College in social media campaigns, on student panels, during focus groups and with virtual classroom visits, among other responsibilities.
