As the calendar turns to June, we begin LGBTQ Pride Month, when we celebrate the impact the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community has made on the world.
Making this Pride Month even more special is the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling this month that protects gay, lesbian and transgender workers. The ruling extends protections to the millions that make up the LGBTQ community. It’s a historic step forward, not just for the LGBTQ community, but for the country as a whole.
So let’s celebrate! There won’t be any traditional, in-person events, but North Lake Student Engagement is hosting three events throughout the month that you can attend virtually! Make sure you RSVP to celebrate Pride Month.
Health and Wellness: Wednesday, June 10, at 5:30 p.m.
Meet the Nelson-Tebedo Clinic staff, tour the facility and learn about the clinic’s programs and services. Nelson-Tebedo provides culturally competent programs, including HIV and STI prevention services, PrEP and gender-affirming care by highly trained staff experts. RSVP for the virtual tour and open house today.
Live and Learn: Tuesday, June 23, at 11 a.m.
If you’re a little confused about how to use correct gender pronouns, consider attending this event. RSVP to learn about personal gender pronouns and how using them can create a more inclusive environment and disrupt the binary status quo.
Netflix and Chill: Monday, June 29, at 6:30 p.m.
Before you ask, no, you don’t need a Netflix account to come watch and discuss “Paris Is Burning” with us. This documentary focuses on drag queens living in New York City and their house culture, which provides a sense of community and support for the flamboyant and often socially shunned performers.
Whether you plan to attend one event or all three, make sure you RSVP so you can virtually celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month with us!
