What Is TexPREP?
Now that we have your attention, allow us to fill you in on the Texas Pre-Freshman Engineering Program (TexPREP) at Dallas Community Colleges. TexPREP is a mathematics-based academic enrichment program. that helps students prepare for careers in STEM fields: science, technology, engineering and math. This program may include coursework, team projects, class presentations, examinations, career awareness speakers, field trips and special events.
Heads up — 2019 application deadline is May 17 and sessions will be hosted from June 17 to July 26 at Cedar Valley’s TexPREP , Eastfield’s TexPrep and Mountain View’s TexPrep.
Who Can Attend TexPREP?
The Texas Pre-Freshman Engineering Program is a summer enrichment program for middle and high school students in grades six through 10 who have interest in careers in science, technology, engineering and math fields.
How Long Are TexPREP Sessions?
TexPREP is held over a six-week period that starts at the beginning of June and ends in July. Heads up —space is limited, and participation is based on admission.
Qualifications for TexPrep:
- Have a student starting the seventh, eighth or ninth grade for the upcoming school year.
- Receive permission from a parent or guardian.
- Earn a grade of 85 or better in mathematics.
- Obtain a grade of 85 or better in either science or English.
- Ask for two recommendations from two teachers.
- Lastly, write a short essay on “Why do you want to attend TexPREP?”
When Can I Apply?
Applications for the Dallas-area TexPREP summer programs are usually available from February to May.
Can I Enroll for TexPREP at a Dallas Community College?
Yes, some colleges of DCCCD offer the TexPREP sessions. The 2019 application deadline is May 17 and sessions will be hosted from June 17 to July 26 at Cedar Valley College, Eastfield College and Mountain View College.
What Does it Cost to Attend TexPREP?
Great question! The program fee for TexPrep is $600 per student however, fees may vary depending on location.
Note: Do you attend a school in Dallas ISD? DISD will cover the program cost for students attending DISD schools. For non-DISD students, all fees are due before the program’s start date. Contact your school district to see if you qualify for financial assistance.
