Continuing our series of posts about the new ad campaign, today you’ll get to meet Charles. Charles is an Eastfield graduate who worked with us to produce an ad promoting our Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology programs, which you can watch at the end of this post.
So you’re in our new ad campaign! What’s your name?
Charles Ratcliff
What made you take an interest in doing the ad with us?
As an actor working primarily in theater, I knew this would be a great way to gain more on-camera experience.
What was the process of shooting like for you? What was it like being on set?
The process was exciting. I was surprised at how much technical preparation went into each shot, yet very little preparation was required for my work. I was reminded to just be natural, which alleviated any stress. We filmed on location with actual employees working around us, and they were very friendly.
What did you like (or not like) about being in the ads?
I was happy to be a part of an ad campaign that could encourage individuals to seek an education to better themselves.
What are you studying? Why did you choose it?
I graduated with an Associate in Science degree June of 2015. Such a degree opens up possibilities of future employment that were once closed.
Why did you choose to study at DCCCD?
I had to prove to myself that I could rise to the challenge to obtain my degree and succeed in my educational endeavors.
What were you doing before attending DCCCD?
Before enrolling with DCCCD, I worked as a scheduling staff member at a clinic in Dallas with limited promotional possibilities.
What are your educational or professional plans after DCCCD?
Thanks to DCCCD and the new found pride in myself, I have transferred to the University of Texas at Dallas where I’m currently studying Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology as an undergraduate junior.
What do you like best about DCCCD?
The fact that DCCCD has so many campuses and online classes within one system takes away plenty of potential hassle in getting one’s education, no matter where they are located. Although currently reasonable, tuition for each campus is steadily increasing, the students are aware of that and are not happy about it. DCCCD is an affordable choice for anyone seeking to change their life for the better!
(Editor’s note: DCCCD tuition is one of the lowest statewide and nationally compared to other community colleges.)
What is something you enjoy doing in your spare time?
When I’m not studying, I frequently research the performing art of acting and perform around Dallas and at Eastfield College in Mesquite.
